Day 5 ~ 21-day Awaken in the Present: Embrace the Now Challenge!

Day 5 ~ July 13, 2023

Welcome back to the challenge! Today is Day 5 and the challenge today asks us to Stop the Busy Work!

What do I mean by this? Well, I’m sort of an expert at this one so I will tell you exactly what it means to me. When I don’t want to be in the present, I start to work. And not good work, like some artwork or developing a class, or something really cool like that. No, I must clean the bathrooms, or the house, wash some clothes, tackle a closet or cabinet that really doesn’t need to be tackled. Dust this, clean that, wash those dishes.

There are times that I avoid being in the present by busying myself with tasks that really do not need to be done right then and there. Why do I avoid the present, well that depends on the day. I do notice though that when I’m not present, I tend to get busy with the nonsense stuff instead of bringing my awareness to the now. Now this is very different than just wanting to avoid something for a few moments or so. This is a habit that gets in my way and either brings me back to the past or launches me forward into the future and that is why I ‘busy’ myself.

Last month, for my Spiritus Animals class, we worked with Turkey Vulture. And this bald-headed beauty was there to help us with bad habits. And I was quite surprised how Vulture showed me how I busy myself when I unconsciously do not want to be in the present. I was not aware of this and was utterly amazed by what I received.

Since then, I question why I do what I do when I think I’m doing something just for busy sake. Turkey Vulture partnered with me to bring me to the present and to be mindful when I’m not in those instances.

The challenge today is for us to be aware of what we are doing and why we do it. To ask ourselves, what made me do this particular ‘busy’ task right now. There very well might be a grand reason why we need to do it but then again there might now be.

Again, it is so easy to be pulled from the present. It takes intention to be present. Let’s start to question our intentions to make sure we are not fooling ourselves into not taking care of ourselves.

I wish you all luck with this one.

Till tomorrow.
